Paul Davies — When Sizzlin’ Stacy met Dazzlin’ Darlene

26 March 2015  - 24 May 2015

Paul Davies describes the escort cards he has religiously collected in Las Vegas between 1994 and 2008 as ‘a form of folk art’ and as a souvenir of a ‘uniquely eroticized landscape’. In When Sizzlin’ Stacy Met Dazzlin’ Darlene Davies’ escort card collection is presented in pairs juxtaposed with seemingly innocuous images, which are the result of the artist’s eBay searches. These unusual pairings are designed to remind us that stereotype, cliché and mystique underpin our understanding of both, for example, a motorcycle and a sultry temptress.
