About Us
Departure Lounge is Luton’s international contemporary art space, with a particular focus on photography.
We believe that art is for everyone and so all our exhibitions and events are free and everyone is welcome.
Embedded locally, and connected internationally, we’re proud to be in Luton. Working in partnership with The Culture Trust Luton, we deliver a diverse and engaging exhibition and events programme that invites you to explore and connect with the best in international contemporary art. No previous experience necessary.
Championing art and photography for the widest possible audiences, we invite world-class artists to work and collaborate with our local communities. Our exhibitions are at once both challenging and accessible, and always thought-provoking. We work with early-career and established artists and photographers to commission new work, produce group and solo shows and offer opportunities for participation.
Established in 2010, Departure Lounge has been bringing vacant retail premises across the town back into use, exhibiting exciting new art in new places for over a decade. Since September 2016, the gallery has occupied the Storefront, a former hat showroom on Bute Street.
Departure Lounge is a safe space, open to all, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion or belief. We do not tolerate racism or discrimination and expect all visitors to follow our code of conduct when visiting our spaces and interacting with our work online.
Departure Lounge’s programme is delivered in partnership with The Culture Trust Luton, we receive regular project support from Arts Council England and other funders
